Author Guidelines

Annals of Curiosity in Epidemiology (ACE) publishes rigorous scholarly work across public health, clinical epidemiology, biostatistical methodology, and surveillance. All submitted manuscripts must adhere to the structural, ethical, and formatting guidelines below.

1. General Formatting & Manuscript Preparation
* File Format: Manuscripts must be submitted in Microsoft Word (.docx) or RTF format.
* Typography & Spacing: Use 12-point Times New Roman or Calibri font, double-spaced throughout, with 1-inch (2.54 cm) margins on all sides.
* Line & Page Numbering: Continuous line numbering and page numbering must be enabled throughout the manuscript to facilitate peer review.
* Anonymization (Double-Blind Review): To ensure an unbiased review process, ensure all author names, institutional affiliations, and identifying acknowledgments are removed from the main manuscript file. Submit author details, funding notices, and institutional affiliations in a separate Title Page file.

2. Structure of Original Research Manuscripts
* Title Page (Separate File): Informative and concise title, full author names, institutional affiliations, ORCID iDs, and corresponding author contact details.
* Abstract & Keywords: A structured abstract of 250–300 words (Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions) followed by 4 to 6 MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) keywords.
* Main Text: Organized into standard IMRaD format:
- Introduction: Clear rationale, literature context, and specific study objectives.
- Methods: Detailed study design, population, eligibility criteria, sampling, ethical approval, statistical methods, and software utilized.
- Results: Synthesized findings supported by uncluttered tables and high-resolution figures (minimum 300 DPI). Avoid duplicating data across text and tables.
- Discussion: Summary of principal findings, comparison with existing literature, strengths, limitations, and public health or clinical implications.
- Conclusions: Direct takeaway based strictly on the reported data.

3. Reporting Standards
Authors must adhere to internationally recognized reporting guidelines and include the appropriate completed checklist with their submission:
* Observational Studies: STROBE (Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology)
* Systematic Reviews & Meta-Analyses: PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses)
* Clinical Trials: CONSORT (Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials)
* Diagnostic/Prognostic Studies: STARD or TRIPOD

4. Ethical Oversight & Informed Consent
Studies involving human subjects or animal experimentation must explicitly state the name of the institutional ethics committee/review board (IRB) and the protocol reference number. A statement indicating obtained written informed consent must be provided.

5. References & Citation Style (Vancouver / NLM Standard)
* Citation Format: References must strictly follow the Vancouver style as outlined by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the National Library of Medicine (NLM / Citing Medicine).
* In-Text Citations: References must be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first cited in the text, using Arabic numerals in parentheses or superscript (e.g., (1) or [1]).
* Author Listings: List the first six authors followed by "et al." If there are six or fewer authors, list all authors. Journal titles must be abbreviated in accordance with the NLM Title Word Abbreviations (Index Medicus / PubMed format).
* DOIs: Persistent Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) must be appended to all references where available.
